Dr Ken Thorley, BVSc, MVS, MACVSc

Dr. Ken graduated from the University of Sydney in 1986. He worked in Australia for 5 years, then the U.K. for 2 years, before coming to Hong Kong to be a founding partner of Victoria Veterinary Clinics in 1992.

In 2003 he completed a Masters in Medicine and Surgery from Murdoch University, before further 1 year courses in Ultrasound, Cardiorespiratory Medicine, Feline Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Radiology. In 2010 he was admitted, by examination, to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in the subject of Medicine of Cats. He authored a chapter in a textbook about Zoonoses of Cats, and works as a feline medicine consultant for the Veterinary Information Network (www.vin.com), providing advice to 50,000 veterinarians world-wide.

Dr Gerry Pahl, BVSc

Dr. Gerry is a Director of Victoria Veterinary Clinics. A graduate of the University of Sydney, his professional interests include small animal dentistry, general surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic) and treatment of pocket pets (rabbits, guniea pigs, chinchillas and rodents).

He arrived in Hong Kong 25 years ago to work at our practice with the intention of staying 6 months on a stopover to Europe, and has been here ever since.

Prior to working in Hong Kong Gerry has worked in Australia and the United Kingdom in large animal and rural practice and horses with the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC).

Gerry has built up a very large and loyal following of clients, who insist on seeing only him.

He is also actively involved in pet exports, helping owners moving between HK and other countries to bring their pets with them.

Dr Chris Simpson, BVSc, MANZCVS

Chris graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1995.

He has worked in Hong Kong for 20 years, building up an extensive local knowledge. He previously worked in multiple states of Australia, the UK, the US, and even the Pacific island of Vanuatu!

In 2010, Chris undertook a 3 year Residency in Canine and Feline Internal Medicine at the University of Melbourne, which also included externships in Oncology and Cardiology at Michigan State University in the US.

He then served as Veterinary Director of one of Melbourne’s largest Emergency and Referral hospitals.

Chris has produced a number of research projects and scientific publications, and holds the 2014 ANZCVS Science Prize for Most Commendable Scientific Paper.

Dr Chris is highly regarded as an outstanding clinician and receives referrals of complex cases from all over Hong Kong for advanced medical work-up.

Dr Jeremy Wearne, BVSc, MRCVs, MACVSc

Jeremy hails from South Africa, and in 1996 it was there that he graduated from the University of Pretoria.

Jeremy was accepted, by examination, into the prestigious Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in the subject of Small Animal Medicine in 2006.

He has worked in Hong Kong for 25 years, the last 10 of them at Victoria.

Jeremy is constantly updating and furthering his extensive medical knowledge, having completed 1 year courses in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Ophthalmology, Ultrasound, Cardiology, and is currently studying Oncology. He loves his work, always the first to arrive and last to leave the hospital.

Dr Joyce Lau, BVSc, MVS, IVAS (Cert.)

Our very popular Dr. Joyce graduated from the University of Sydney in 2004, and worked in Australia for three years before returning to Hong Kong. Dr. Joyce’s clinical interest is in the field of Small Animal Internal Medicine. She has received further training in Diagnostic Imaging (ESVAS Diagnostic Ultrasound, ESVAS Diagnostic Radiology), acupuncture, and recently completed a Masters in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery through Massey University.

 Dr Edmund Wong, BVSc, MVS

Dr. Edmund is a Hong Kong native who moved to Australia as a child. He was awarded a scholarship and graduated from the University of Sydney in 2008.

He completed a 4 year Masters Degree in Medicine and Surgery from Murdoch University in 2012.

Edmund started at VVC as a new graduate more than a decade ago and has developed into a very astute clinician with extensive knowledge and experience of Hong Kong diseases and conditions.

Having worked in our ER Department for many years, he is very proficient in emergency and critical medicine and surgery.

Dr. Ethan Yiu BVSc GCertSAECC MRCVS

Dr. Ethan graduated from the University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia in 2006. Then he worked in large animal practices in Australia for 6 years before moving back to  Hong Kong. He has become a very experienced and accomplished clinician, focusing on our evening emergency shift. In 2023 he was awarded (by examination) the Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care from the University of Melbourne, recognising his proficiency in this field.
